K2SE Firmware upgrade

I hope someone can help me. I am new to 3D printing and have recently purchased a K2SE CFS combo. All had been going well on the current firmware (2.3.6.49 I believe).

Yesterday I was prompted to update firmware to 2.3.6.66.

Now the printer is in chinese. I have tarnslated via Google translate and there is no option to change the language.

I have tried a USB with wipe_all and new (previous version) firmware. USB stick is formatted to exFAT. Have tried increasing the firmware to a “higher number”. The wipe_all does get deleted from the USB stick so I believe something is happening! This update fails each time!

Can anyone help

This is a pretty common issue on the Creality K2 SE after some firmware updates. Several users report that certain firmware versions boot into Chinese-only mode or hide the language option. (Reddit)

Try this first — it usually works even when the printer is fully in Chinese:

  1. From the main screen, tap the gear/settings icon.

  2. Scroll all the way to the bottom of the settings menu.

  3. Tap the second-to-last option (this is usually “Language”).

  4. Select English.

On many Creality firmwares, the language menu is near the bottom even when everything is Chinese. (Creality Community Forum)

If you cannot find it:

  • Use your phone camera with Google Translate live translation.

  • Look for:

    • 中文 = Chinese

    • English = English

If English is NOT listed at all, then the firmware itself is the problem. Some K2 SE firmware releases appear to be Chinese-region firmware only. (Reddit)

In that case:

  1. Download an older/global firmware from:

  2. Put the firmware .img or .bin file on a USB drive or SD card.

  3. Rename the firmware file if needed (some users report Creality firmware only reflashes if the filename/version looks newer). (Creality Community Forum)

  4. Reflash the printer.

The K2 SE officially supports English and multiple other languages, so your printer is not supposed to be stuck permanently in Chinese. (creality.com)

Hope this helps

Has anyone found a fix? I am having the same issue with my K2SE being stuck in Chinese after the .66 firmware update. I have tried every suggestion I’ve found and nothing is working.

In contact with customer services as printer is (just) under 4 weeks old. Communication wirh them is very slow, 2-3 days before they reply each time.

I tried everything I could fine online and no luck. I had tracked down a replacement mainboard (around £50) which I was considering. I assume that changing the mainboard would fix the problem ???

Customer service have sent me a link to 2.3.6.57 firmware which has worked.

Updated as normal, then allowed language change to English. I would suggest contacting customer services and asking for this firmware.

Yes that update works to get the display back to multi language. Customer service had to email me the link too

Customer service sent me the link for the 2.3.6.57. I have followed the instructions for erasing and formatting the USB. The printer either comes up with a blank screen, as if there is no firmware on the USB, or it tells me to eject or insert the USB. Am I doing something wrong? I’m on a MacBook, I went into disk utility and clicked “erase” and then the MS Dos Fat32 - with a USB that has 128GB. I turn the printer off, insert the USB into the printer, then turn the printer on.

Try using a smaller capacity USB stick. Mine was 16GB. FAT32 with partition size 4096. Some larger capacity USB sticks may not work. Also make sure your new update file ends in .img and it’s the only thing on the stick.

When it finally updated it came back in Mandarin, so look under the gear setting for the language selection menu. I found English there, made the switch and all good now. :cowboy_hat_face:

I also didn’t start with the printer off- just plugged the USB stick in when in idle.

The file customer service sent me does NOT just end with .img. There is more text after it. I renamed the file, removing all the text after the .img. Now my printer recognizes the file on the USB, but when I hit the green button to try to install the firmware, it fails. Something that I didn’t mention before (but have to customer service) is that since the .66 firmware update, my creality cloud app on my devices show the printer offline. I tried to remove the device and reinstall the printer, but it will not show that the printer is online, even though it is. So I cannot even use the printer in Chinese if I wanted to because the app is not talking to the printer. I really appreciate all of your help. Do you have anymore suggestions? Should I ask customer service to send me a link that ends with .img?

I also forgot to mention that I tried renaming the file a higher number. The USB that I’m using right now - that the printer is recognizing the file - 16GB.

same thing happened to me I have tried for hours to fix it and nothing and AI is unhelpful

Finally! Customer service sent me a new link with the 2.3.6.57 firmware and it worked this time! Thank you all for your help!
