My refurbished Falcon Pro 2 engraver arrived without a calibration card. Is there a link to a PDF or some other version of the card that is correctly sized?
I have a Falcon 2 Pro…. not sure what you mean calibration card? If you mean a laser calibration file; you can get them free on the web, and LaserBurn software has a couple defaults. Axis calibration can be done without a card or Laser burn. Just cut a line in X axis at zero and another 300mm parallel to the first. Repeat for the Y axis. Now you have a 300mm square. You can measure the distance with dial calipers and adjust each machine axis value accordingly.
There is a Windows Excel file I use to calculate the necessary number based on the factory value and the actual value measured. I got it free on the web and being an engineer I accurazied it a bit and made it more user friendly.
I rather like the LightBurn file and others similarly free on the web, but it only shows us if something is inaccurate - not how to adjust it. One thing I learned… No matter if we have an accurate location of burn…. if we feed too fast; the steppers can’t respond fast enough to interpolate curves, corners or direction changes… I found for the Falcon 2 Pro if I run the speed at 3000mm max I have clean smooth corners and true circles.
Machines with servos and linear scales usually can run full speed or will automatically slow down based on the geometry, but they cost many thousands of dollars. Steppers are what we often learn on because they are cheaper machines. If you’re using LightBurn it can also manage some of this for us.
The Falcon Pro 2 is a good machine, better if we dial it in and also take time to adjust the belt tensions equally. I use a pull-force gage to assure equal tension.
On my Falcon Pro 2 I don’t tolerate a dimensional miss of more than 0.2MM. The laser spot size is .06mm and eats up 30% of my tolerance.
