New Ender 3 V3 firmware extrudes before retracting

I updated the firmware on my Ender 3 V3 (regular) yesterday after receiving it earlier this week. I’m fairly new to this printer although I had an Ender 2 for a year and others before that. I could have sworn that when I used the retract option before upgrading the firmware it would just retract. Now it seems to extrude before retracting, has anyone else noticed this? Feels like a bug to me.

I upgraded from 1.2.0.46 (shipped version) to 1.2.3.28 (latest at the time of upgrade).

Yes mine did the same thing after an update done months ago. I complained to Creality about the wasted filament and sent them a video of how the retract was working. Several more emails went back and forth until they finally came to the conclusion that everything was working as it should. I would have hoped the issue would be fixed by now. I resolved it by rolling the printer back to an update that worked as it should. The problem is I cannot get any new updates as I refuse to live with that issue.

That’s interesting. Doesn’t feel right to me either. TBH though, after stumbling across another thread recently about swapping filament I’ve stopped using the retract in case of gumming up the extruder cogs with soft filament. I’ve started removing the ptfe tube from the hotend, cutting the filament and extruding the last bit out rather than retracting, as suggested here, How do I Retract Filament on my Ender 3 V3? - #12 by Bonfireman
