I’ve just purchased and installed my Falcon2 40W laser engraver.
I’m trying my first few projects using the supplied 2MM ± basswood and both the engraving and cutting are not working properly.
I used the step depth gauge supplied on the highest step (1-3mm)
I set my line at speed 1000 at 100% power.
Made sure the laser is installed correct and not wobbling in the gantry.
So with the above settings, it cuts not even half way. After two passes it cuts part of the project but still not completely through.
I bought the Falcon 2 40w off of Amazon and unfortunately upon inspection of the supplied parts, the only thing missing is the extra laser so I can’t even try a new laser to see if that is the problem.
Please advise next course of action…
P.S. I tried it again setting the laser lower (middle step on the depth gauge) using a new 2mm basswood (still supplied by Creality) and after two passes, it did not cut through.
Im stumped and getting a bit frustrated. Please advise.
This is likely a dud. Ask for a full refund or a replacement.
The 40W laser at a speed setting of 1000 and power setting of 65% will cut straight through the 2mm wood in one pass. Even at 45% setting, it will cut the horizontal sides of a square completely through, but not the vertical sides.
For engraving at a speed of 1000 and power setting of 7% it will burn a depth of about 1mm.
Thanks, I appreciate the response HB68.
I’m trying a new ibdev file. I originally used the one that auto-installed when I did a search for my machine in LightBurn. After getting an email from Creality having me go through the installation steps again, I’m trying the one that came on the SD card. Initially after installing it, the laser seems to work better. Since I’ve run out of material to test with I’ve got to go to the hardware store to get some luan to some more testing but initial results with the last of the 2mm stuff they provided seemed good.
I’ve seen where folks don’t have the hardware configured correctly and they are actually cutting at a fraction of the 100% power their slicer is showing. Verify your printer is configured properly in your software so it’s indeed cutting at the correct power.
That is most likely the case. I had just picked the engraver that showed up in Lightburn when it did its auto search for an engraver ub the Machine Settings window. I’m now using the configuration sent by Creality instead.
