Hello from near the seaside in North Yorkshire!
It seems i’m a late starter in life ……
- Learnt to ride a motorbike properly at 50 in Oct 2018. Started the original journey aged 16!
- Passed my Auto Car Test Sept 2024.
- Passed my Manual Car Test Nov 2025.
- Fell into 3D Printing through another hobby Feb 2026!
I’ve always been into my arts & crafts, my biggest passion to date has been sewing & machine knitting (3 of, 2 punchcard & 1 electronic)
It was through my love of machine knitting that i fell head first into 3D printing. I have a Brother Garter Carriage (Google it for an explanation please) & i was desperate to change its capabilities from 1 colour knitting to 2 colour knitting, this required an adaptor. I found an STL file on Thingiverse but couldn’t find anyone near me to print this file so i purchased 1 from Matt at VZV3D.com whom i’ve previously purchased other 3D printed items for my knitting machines . Part arrived, fitted & i was soon happily knitting in 2 colours with my GC!
Then i wondered, if me, at my age could handle yet another hobby………. oh yes!
A Creality Ender 3 V3 KE was soon ordered/delivered. First 3D print was the same GC 2 colour adaptor!
I’m a self taught, low level tech savvy geek through my previous job in a mobile phone shop where i learnt to unlock phones, upgrade their software etc. It came in handy when i upgraded my electronic knitting machine with the Eknitter board (again Google it please) i had to learn all about AYAB (Google it!) & use GIMP, Stitch Fiddle & img2track knitting machine software.
So far, in 3 weeks, i’ve learnt to put a 3D printer together, link it up with my laptops, print in 1 colour, then figure out how to print in 2 colours, add Pauses, manipulate/re-write G-Code & re-size etc.
I have looked into Co Print KCM Set with regards to upgrading my KE to a 4 or 8 colour 3D printer but after being advised its “a very messy system with no real guarantee it will work as it should do” i’m now looking at multi-colour 3D printers!
