when i print it all i can do to get the models off of the textured plate
Have you tried bending and flexing the build plate?
It would help if you told us what filament you were using, hot end temp, plate temp, 1st layer thickness, etc. I use a single edge razor paint scraper to start the print removal, from a smooth plate, and finish with a drywall knife, if needed.
