My K1 Max takes about 5-10 min to start a print and stays on “Nozzle Cleaning In Progress” and does not appear to be doing anything. Is this normal and what is it doing exactly?

Welcome to the Creality Forum 
It does take a few minutes to start up.
Nozzle Cleaning In Progress" is when the print head goes to the back of the build plate and tries to scrape off any filament sticking out of the nozzle…
It also does a “Homing” procedure where it figures out where it is on the X and Y axis.
Does it get past the start up screen and print…?
You can uncheck the calibration box on the printer screen to speed up things.
