Older Ender 3 Pro need help

Hello,
I had gotten an Ender 3 Pro back in 2021 as a gift, and finally assembled it in 2023. Just this year (2025) I actually started operating it. Then I damaged the platform bed when the nozzle rammed and printed into the surface, so I bought the CR Touch sensor and got it installed, however, since my printer seems to be considerably out of date and I can’t find many resources to help find out how to “get it up-to-date” I would like some help getting the firmware and such for the mainboard and the sensor updated.

The most information I have is:
Marlin
Ver 1.0.1
2020 -04 - 25
Ender 3 Pro

I’m assuming the “Ver 1.0.1” is the firmware on the mainboard. Would I have to replace the mainboard to be able to use the Ver 4.x.x firmware? Is that possible with this unit?

I am looking forward to gaining experience from this unit and I’m having an interesting start.

Thank you for your time and attention to my post,
Kei

The V4.2.7 is a direct replacement for the old ender 3 8bit boards. The v4.2.7 is a 32bit and used silent motor drivers.

If you know how to compile Marlin firmware I would use the bigtreetech ender3 v3 control board as it can be expanded to use smart filament detector, RGB lighting and other features.
there are compiled software available for the board also youtube videos for instalation.

Thank you for your response!

I am quite a beginner and have not looked into coding at this time. I just want to summarize what you are suggesting:

Replace the mainboard with something current
Load firmware

Are you also suggesting that I replace the motor/s as well? I would like to be sure I understand everything as a beginner.

Thank you for your time,
Katty

Hi Katty, No need to replace the stepper motors only the control board. The creality board has downloadable firmware available from the creality website. The board is a direct replacement for the old board in the ender 3pro.
