PHA Filament

Hello! New to the 3d printing world and looking to purchase my first printer. I’m interested in using PHA as my primary filament, but the specs for the printer doesn’t specifically state the PHA is a compatible filament. I’ve talked to customer support and they said that though it’s not listed, it’s characteristics are very similar as PLA and I would have to tweak some setting based based off the filament brand. Has anyone tried using PHA on the i7? Any thoughts, concerns, etc.?

Thank you!

Hello !

Never tried the PHA myself but that’s just an eco-friendly PLA, right ?
Which brand are you using ? ColorFabb ?

If that’s not abrasive (like PLA-CF), nor too elastic (like TPU), the printer should easily be able to print it.

I looked at a number of different brands. PHA is highly biodegradable in terms of the rate of decomposition and it doesn’t require commercial compost. It can be composted at home! Some brands like Colorfabb have certification for the filaments’ biodegradability. I read that PHA shares a lot similar properties to PLA, but what I’m attracted to is the relatively low carbon footprint and the little to no affects it has on the environment when tossed in the wild. I’ve also read that PLA kind of goes against the grain as to the process of printing. It relies on faster cooling rate as opposed to other filaments that need a slower rate of cool down, so the open chassis is actually beneficial for printing PHA. I hope this info helps! Thanks for the reply.

It should work, I think it’s just not listed because barely anyone uses it.
