Hi everyone, im am having an issue with a new Ender 3 V3 printer. I have used 10 1k spools of PLA & PLA+ filament in this printer with a hiccup here and there mostly operator error.
I am having a lot of issues lately, and it seems to be related to a spool of Creality brand dark red PLA+. The print starts fine, and the table adhesion is good. It will get 30min or more into the print and then the extruder will start clicking and it doesn’t feed. I have check the etruder for obstructions etc. Replace the hot end, installed a dust filter, checked for feed problems at the spool, tangles, freedom of movement etc. All with no luck.
I printed a temperature test to see if that might be the issue and couldn’t see much difference in the way the red filament printed. Currently printing at 220°. When the filament has stop feeding I have released the extruder and pushed the filament through by hand and it feeds through fine.
Im at a loss with this any advice or direction would be appreciated.
Hello @3Delusional …!
Welcome to the Creality Forum…!
Since this problem only occurs with that roll I would make sure it’s run through a dryer and then try again…
Go back and try a different roll.
Pull the extruder and check the plastic gears to make sure they are clean and no teeth are broken…
Thanks for your help, ive only been printing for a couple of months so i am very new to this. I will give your suggestion a try. I live in utah and we dont have much problem with filament drawing in moisture is there anyway to dry it without a filament dryer?. I have used almost all of my different spool with no problems.
I actually use a food dehydrator which works very well. Holds six full rolls at once when it’s not making beef jerky or other snacks…
I’m not sure other than a dryer what else to use. Another member might have some recommendations…
Take the end piece of the roll and bend it in several places. If it snaps instead of bending then it might need to be dried…
Good to know. I will see if it bends. I think read something about putting it in an oven at low temp. I do some searching. I have used SolidWorks and a CNC machine for over 20yr. But this 3d printing has a lot of different dynamics. Been pretty successful with it so far but this one has had me stumped. Thanks again for your help.
Sounds like the oven probably isnt the best method. I when through all of my filaments and none of them snap. I printed the little benchy boa and it printed flawlessly. Im trying an Eifel tower with this red that one of my little grandsons has been asking for (go figure). At the settings im trying its a 12hr print. Ill see what happens. I slowed down the speed and increased the temp??
