Poor part support release and rough resulting surface

I’ve been trying to adjust settings to get the part surface to look better and it continues to look really ratty/chewed up after I remove the support. The filament is Creality Hyper PLA and I’m using Creality Print 6.3 as my slicer. To to answer a follow-on question, yes I tried updating to the latest Creality Print 7.1 and uninstalled it after nothing I sliced would print.

Has anyone had any luck with an improved surface after removing the support and, if so, what settings did you use?

Hi BMW,

My go to support settings that fall off. Tree, z distance .23, 3 top layers. Is the over side flat or does it have the same under cut?

Try to switch on at sliser support interface with a PETG filament. It gives the best surface, because no adhesion between PLA and PETG.

MAC486- I’ll try those settings.

EVGENY- Interesting idea. So does that mean I need to print the supports with PETG or does the slicer handle the supports differently when this is set?

Sliser Orca or Creality will change gape to zero and infill of separate layer to 100% automatically. It’s OK! You ought only mark options, as on photo and choose PETG as material layer. That is all!

Also You may mark to print all supports from PETG, but it will cause to many filament changes Each layer! Best idea it is a one layer between support and model!

Evgeny- I tried out your suggestion to put a single layer of PETG on the top of the support and it worked beautifully. The finish on the underside of the part where it was supported is significantly better. The first part layer above the support still seems to print coarse but at least it is a much better surface.

Thanks for your suggestion!!
