Hi! I have a Creality PIKA scanner and I’m using the Creality Scan app on a phone with a MediaTek Dimensity 900 and 12 GB of RAM.
Even though the Dimensity 900 isn’t exactly a low-end processor, I’m only getting around 3 FPS while scanning, which makes the experience pretty poor.
Does anyone know if the Android version of Creality Scan is mainly optimized for Qualcomm Snapdragon processors? Has anyone had better results with PiKa on a MediaTek-based phone?
I’m wondering whether this is simply a performance limitation of my phone or an optimization/compatibility issue with MediaTek chipsets.
Have you sent a report in the app directly? What is the name of the phone model?
I asked someone from the scanner engineering team, they said:
Pika currently supports mobile phones powered by MediaTek chipsets. However, when using the blue laser mode, the frame rate and performance on MediaTek devices may not be as good as on devices powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon chipsets. We will continue optimizing compatibility and performance for different mobile chipsets. The MediaTek Dimensity 900 is roughly comparable to the Qualcomm Snapdragon 778G, which is below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2. Pika’s minimum recommended configuration is: Qualcomm Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 or above Android 10.0 or above 8 GB RAM or above Therefore, the CPU performance of the Dimensity 900 is below Pika’s minimum recommended configuration. While the phone may still be able to connect and work with Pika, we cannot guarantee optimal performance, especially when using the blue laser mode.
Phone is Ulefone Power Armor 18t with Android 12. Poor performance is during scanning with IR. Blue laser scanning doesn’t work at all. Application said it’s not available.
Interesting thing - I have similar situation on Samsung Galaxy A55 5G with Exynos 1480. Performance is similar and blue laser scanning is also unavailable.
it’s kinda off topic, I just want to provide some info about my experience.
I’ve tested a Oneplus 11 phone, it’s based on a Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 and got 16 GB Ram. Performance rating by Creality Scan is average. The Pika works in all scan modes but only via WiFi since the phone does not support USB type 3. Scanning works ok, it’s an affordable solution for mobile scanning.
Next I’ve tested a ZTE Nubia Pad Pro (11”). It runs on Snapdragon 8 Gen 3, 16 GB Ram. It supports USB type 3 but I haven’t tested it yet, only WiFi. Performance rating is excellent, all scan modes are working very good. Laser scan performance up to 60 fps, Infrared up to 30. This is my current device for mobile scans.
These two devices are in the 300€/$ price range when bought used.
And when it comes to MediaTek processors, which ones would you recommend? I like phones with unusual features, and unfortunately those don’t really come with Qualcomm processors. Besides, Qualcomm-based phones are expensive.
