The connection between my sonic pad and ender 3 v3 se keeps disconecting

My ender 3 keeps on disconnecting from my sonic pad. I have checked my firmware updates and they are up to date. I would like to get my printer back up and running so any help would be nice.

It is throwing key 1 code error and key 298 error

I used to have this, I did a number of things to fix it.

  1. Block the 5V part of the USB, either with a bit of tape on the pins or using a PortaPow power blocking dongle (this is what I used)
  2. Clip a ferrite onto the USB cable near the Sonic Pad.

Ok I will try that

Is that ferrite still working for you?
Why disconnect the 5v pin? Just wondering.

Thank you!

Since doing those things it has been largely trouble free, but don’t wiggle the USB cable in the port, almost certain to get a key1 failure.

Pretty sure that the printer only needs the data only connection and the 5V sends it into an error. It doesn’t need the power so perhaps find a data only cable, these don’t have the 5V connection.

But how are you sure the 5v pin sends it into an error?

(I’m really curious)

Thanks for the update!

It would error with it connected but doesn’t without? I am not an electronics or programming type person, I am more the mechanical/empirical type so it is kind of if it works don’t fix it.

But then why add the ferrite?
(If it worked without the 5v line, why bother with a ferrite?)

Belt and braces, had one kicking around so fitted it. Try it without perhaps?
