Unknown Error Code 2857 on Creality K1 Max – Z-axis problem

Hi everyone,

I’m having a problem with my Creality K1 Max and I wonder if anyone has seen this before.

Error:
The printer shows an error code 2857 related to the Z-axis. I cannot find any documentation about this code, so its meaning is unknown.

Symptoms:

  • The build plate does not move all the way up, and calibration cannot finish.
  • Sometimes it also shows a message like “already reached minimum value.”
  • If I force the bed all the way down until it overruns the limit and then move it back up, the printer recovers temporarily and works again.

What I have checked:

  • This machine is not brand new, but has only been used a little.
  • I inspected the Z-axis moving parts and saw no obvious mechanical issues (lead screws, couplings, etc.).
  • I have not yet disassembled the belt system.
  • My other K1 Max works fine with no such error.

Questions:

  • Does anyone know what error code 2857 actually means?
  • Could this be a firmware bug, or a hardware (belt/sensor) issue?
  • Should I try further mechanical inspection, or is it better to contact Creality support?

Z-axis print coordinate out of range error indicates the printer is attempting to move beyond its physical Z-axis limits…
Im not sure how the limit sensor works for Z on k1 max, but afaik, its a current sensor, so if the motor bumps on the plate, this trigers the limit.
Btw, if you rooted your printer, check your mesh and your Z limit. (maybe your board isnt reading the current i guess)

Hello.

Thank you very much for your detailed response. I’ve found the cause of the problem. It turns out that a cable tie holding the bed cable had come loose and was obstructing the movement of the Z-axis by making contact with the bed.

I’ll add my solution/situation into this thread in case it helps someone else. My problem turned out to be another printers info embedded in the STL file. As soon as that was remedied - all good.
