Warning regards Australian filament supplier

Hello all,
If the way this company “Siddament” operates, then ok, otherwise give your view if you feel.

I have bought filaments generally via ebay/aliexpress/amazon, and with different brands they have always arrived boxed.

I thought, ok, why not see if I could find an Australian filament supplier and put the money into Australia rather than an overseas company.

I found one (of many) and decided to buy a couple of rolls from them, “Siddament”.

The two spools arrived in vacuum sealed bags and wrapped in bubble wrap.
I decided to send their support a message of my disappointment of them not being in boxes as have other suppliers have.

Their rude reply…

to me

we haven’t used boxes for 2 years, they add to the shipping weight pushing it up in all aspects, I’d suggest buying elsewhere as we won’t be ever going back to boxes, it saves 2000$ every 20000 spools in the shipping and handling from china, and it saves a further 2000$ in last mile shipping, when you have 4 rolls of filament it weights 5.2kg with boxes without boxes it weighs 5kg making it ship for 10$ instead of 17$. With my margins the boxes do nothing to help it but make that margin worse. If your happy to pay for boxes we can add them to each order for 80cents extra but you’ll pay more in shipping.

this is outlined in the transparency article so it’s been displayed for the past year under the moving back to plastic spools.

They suggest buying elsewhere … not, we are sorry that it doesn’t meet your specific requirements.
You are also required to read the fine print when ordering.

Then, when I replied, letting them know I would not be buying from them again, to which they obviously tried to shame me by putting the conversation on their Facebook page for comments, and directed me to it :-1:

If you feel ok with their companies methods, fine. If not, reply to this here, but don’t bother to message them directly as it probably be shamed by then also.

Cheers.
P.S. When you go to a site to look for a filament and decide to buy one, do you go searching their site looking for their “transparency” articles ?

I have been using X3D filament for several years and find is excellent. And it come in a box.

I print there PETG at 200 mm/s on my K1C.

Bill

Hello @Bill.b ,

Thank you for replying. I will give them a go and see what they have.

Thank you again

Hello @Bill.b ,

Hi, I just looked over their site. They have heaps of filament choices with good prices and their delivery charge is Very Good.

I will definitely be buying from them.

Cheers.

It was probably as well protected as a box… It wouldn’t bother me what it was packaged in as long as it wasn’t damaged. Many Amazon packages come in plastic bags.

Not sure if their reply was rude as more telling you why. Probably upset as there was some not so nice dialog on FB…?

The Sidd from siddament here. Posting this here and on the site so you have both sides of the story to anyone reading this.

Ah this is perfect public and transparent! So let’s break this down from my end and let’s explore the key parts that have been left out here.

Your first email to me mentioned the disappointment in no boxes. You mentioned that there was a sticker that you have no use for which could have gone towards the cost of the box to go around the filament.

I responded “ > we haven’t used boxes for 2 years, they add to the shipping weight pushing it up in all aspects, I’d suggest buying elsewhere as we won’t be ever going back to boxes, it saves 2000$ every 20000 spools in the shipping and handling from china, and it saves a further 2000$ in last mile shipping, when you have 4 rolls of filament it weights 5.2kg with boxes without boxes it weighs 5kg making it ship for 10$ instead of 17$. With my margins the boxes do nothing to help it but make that margin worse. If you’re happy to pay for boxes we can add them to each order for 80cents extra but you’ll pay more in shipping.

this is outlined in the transparency article so it’s been displayed for the past year under the moving back to plastic spools.”

This is a blunt to the point email, giving you information and a very detailed breakdown and explanation as to why boxes aren’t used and why they won’t be used as they are pretty useless and create more headaches due to the custom boxes I use. Outlined there and in the article.

I provided alternatives with 2 options, “purchase elsewhere or pay 80cents extra (the cost for the box) and I can add it on.

That first response had everything that was required to solve / shutdown this.

I then mentioned a solution for the sticker you said you have “no use for” by simply binning it as they are all included for free in each order.

Your next response was “I won’t be buying from you again or others that read your email” now key words your own words here, others that read your email. Ok I posted that email to the Facebook post which you mention was there to insult, but it was actually made to send to the “others that read the email” and sent the link back to you.

Now after I sent that link to you, you have responded with “you are a second rate company to paste a complaint on Facebook, to shame them that’s what school kids do. Morons” now once again if my memory serves me right, we head back to the previous paragraph where it was said “others that read the email will not buy from you either” the others read the email and came to their own conclusions, I posted what you mentioned to me to post publicly as well in response to the posts which was also done publicly.

I signed off the email by sending the updated posts link and ~ Sidd lead moron at siddament.

So that’s the full picture here and how blown out of proportion this is over a few cardboard boxes. Which we have now dubbed “box gate”

The first response was blunt to the point and it once again had all the details and information and explanations and solutions to this problem.

Now about your ps who reads the fine print. The transparency page has its own button on the site, it’s not meant to be fully read but it contains answers to all the most important questions. I link to the transparency page all the time as I’ve spent hours working on them to minimise confusion and questions asked, whatever I stated in my first reply was written in the article or summarised in the article that was made like 6-8 months before this happend.

I don’t generally chime into topics like this but when i see someone get it completely wrong such as yourself I need to say something. I have been using Siddament for quite some time now and find the product very good if not better than a lot of the other product available here in Australia. Being someone who resides in Sydney I like the idea of supporting someone small and local instead of a large corporation.

Your reasoning for finding this particular Filament supplier rude is just straight up stupid and moronic. You asked a question. It was answered and logically. I have never had any issues with shipping or damage out of the many thousands of dollars I have spent with this Supplier. I am not sure for your reasoning for needing a box for each individual rolls when there are a lot of other reusable options out there. Need a box for your individual roll is wasteful as when your done with it your are either chucking it in the garbage or if you have half a brain you are recycling it. Either way not really required as long as it arrives sealed and undamaged. I think your feelings got hurt because you realised how logical and straightforward the answer was considering by doing a little research before hand, you would have discovered this is literally on his website. As for the response being rude. I do not find the response rude but to the point. You are obviously way to sensitive and you just need to put your big boy/girl pants on.

If you want to spend more money on filamanet just do have a box there are a lot of options out there. If you want a low cost decent filament then buy local from this company. buying local is supports a small business who in this case has done nothing wrong other than stating the reasonable facts as as to why they do what they do and is transparent about it and if you want something different than you will need to pay extra.

I for one will continue to support Siddament as i have found their customer service great, they have been super responsive when I have had questions in the past and when I have done pickups they have been super friendly to talk to unlike a lot of other business in this city. I think you should maybe come to the realisation that the problem in this situation is likely you and not the companies response and maybe stop being so precious.

I DO buy filament and other products from Australian companies and they all come boxed (which I DO use).

Who says I am either?

Have a nice day.
