Which laser for my upgrade

I’ve had my Creality Falcon 10 watt laser for about 6 weeks and am already finding projects that would be better with a more powerful laser.

I’m deciding between the Falcon2 units at 22 watts and 40 watts. At the moment I’m looking to cut .05 chipboard in one or two passes to get a clean cut with as little charring as possible.

Who knows down the road though what I might want to do. So logic says get the 40 watt unit. Just thought I’d see what people had to say though.

Thanks

If cutting wood is your only focus, then yeah a more powerful diode laser will get you where you want to go!

I’m finding diode lasers are great for organic materials and okay for specialised colour acrylic. Starting to look at other laser types so I can improve my options with metal and clear acrylic (MOPA and CO2 lasers respectively). Right now Creality don’t offer these two types, so I’m pretty much limited to the metal and plastic engraving options with the 2W infrared optional laser.

MOPA (variation on fibre lasers) is a great option for metal engraving with depth, and for cutting metal sheets. Have seen some impressive examples of what can be done with A.N. Other manufacturer’s devices. Hoping we’ll see some offerings in this sector from Creality soon.

The other type I mentioned, CO2 lasers, truly enjoying the versatility they offer while watching examples on YT and enthusiast sites. I want to work with clear acrylic on some ideas I’ve had, and pre-treating the sheets can be a pita… CO2 laser would solve all my problems!
