Z-axis photosensor check

A bit of a newbie/silly question. Creality support wants me to check the photosensors on bottom of machine after powering up to make sure they are firing/lighting up. They think I damaged the one or both sensors whilst replacing both z-axis screws (though this problem existed when I first received machine). Suggestion was to put machine on side, pull bottom panel, and observe after turning printer on. Seems the z-axis screws would have some issues supporting the bed while printer is doing it’s self check…thus my silly question - is this safe/wise to do this?

can you not just use a small mirror ? to visually check…
