Z homing issue, Extruder nozzle crashes on the bed

J ai un probleme de homing avec mon imprimante Ender 3 s1 pro (f/w ver 2.0.8.28f4 , h/w cr-fdm-v24s1-301). A la mise sous rtension, il y a bien le test du cr-touch (2 fois) puis pour faire le zero de position (homing) le deplacement et la detection des butee en X et en Y est ok, mais à la descente (x=0, y=0) la pige du cr- touch reste rentree (elle ne sort pas !) aussi la descente continue jusqu’à heurter le plateau et forcer !! Je suis obliger de couper l alim et de remonter le bras à la main. Un essai en partant de plus haut, oú je peux manoeuvrer à la main la pige du cr-touch (tirer puis relacher) la descente s arrete et le z affiché est à zero.

Quelqu’un a t-il eu un tel probleme ? Est-ce le cr-touch qui est en panne ? J envisage de le changer, mais je ne suis pas sur, aux tests à la mise sius rension, il a l air de fonctionner.

I have an issue with the homing for my 3D printer, which is an Ender 3 S1 pro (f/w ver 2.0.8.28f4 , h/w cr-fdm-v24s1-301). The cr-touch test on power on, seems Ok with led flashing (the metal stick goes out two times), but during the homing process, this metal rod of the cr-touch remains retracted, then the descend towards the bed doesnt stop and the extruder nozzle crashes on the bed with a bad motor noise until I cut off the power. Then I have to manually pull up the horizontal girder along the gantry.
The stick probe of the cr-touch can be handle without resistance, and connections (wires and connectors) show good.
When the head is high enough for me to manipulate the stick probe before the head reaches the bed during the Z homing, the movement the horizontal girder stops and the Z-coordinate is displayed as 0.
The cr-touch seems to be partially working !!

Has anyone else experienced such a problem ? Is the CR-Touch broken done ? I’m thinking of replacing it, but I’m not sure.

Try to lubricate the probe so it will not stuck inside the hood.
Also there’s an stl with a tiny ring that you can put around the probe. That ring prevents the probe to get stuck and you will not get any CR touch errors.
Search for Ender 3 V3 SE cr ring or something like that.

Check if the pin of the creality touch isn’t bend! If I’m informed correctly you got a spare pin when you bought the printer…

As I wrote, the stick probe of the cr-touch offer no resistance if I pull on it.
The connectors and wires look fine.
But I placed an order to a new one, as I suspect a possible breakdown in it.

I just received the new CR-Touch, and I mounted it in place of the old one … wait …
To bad, bad pickaxe … the problem is still there: at power on, the metal stick of the CR-touch goes out and home tow times, and the red light is on; but during the zeroing and while the extruder head move down towards the bed, the stick prode of the CR-touch remains retracted, untill the extruder nozzle crashes on the bed and grazing.
It’s a shame, I don’t know what to do, what to suspected !

I just tried something else, assuming the issue might be related to the firmware.
I reflashed the firmware on the mainboard.

Since I wasn’t sure the update had been applied correctly, I first flashed an older firmware version (“26F4”) and then flashed the latest version (“28F4”) to verify from the interface display that the firmware was actually changing. Result=> no improvement at all. The Z-zeoring issue is still present.
I also reflashed the firmware on the interface display, but again, there was no improvement.

I’m now considering replacing the mainboard… to be continued.

I replaced the motherboard.
After power ON, I checked the firmware version and confirmed that it is the latest one (2.08.28F4), like before.
It’s a miracle, the X, Y, and Z homing procedure works correctly: when the extruder head moves down, the CR-Touch stick-probe deploys and its indicator light turns blue. So that part of the problem is solved… But… yes, unfortunately there is an another issue !

I was able to perform a manual bed leveling (Settings > Levelling > Homing > Aux.LVL) on all five points by adjusting the four bed screws using a sheet of paper as a feeler gauge. I repeated the process several times to fine-tune the Z-offset (about -3.3, before I had -3.5). However, things went wrong when I switched to automatic bed leveling (Auto.LVL): the zeroing process completed correctly at the center, but at the first front-right corner test point, the CR-Touch stick-probe does not deploy and the interface displays the error “203 probing-failed.”
I repeated the operation several times, holding the black ribbon cable in different positions to rule out the possibility of a poor connection. The result remained the same.

Upon reflexion, I now have serious doubts about the black ribbon cable. I think that manipulate the machine while replacing the motherboard may simply have shifted the issue elsewhere.

I installed the Printrun software suite (version 2.2.0) on my Windows 11 PC so that I could use Pronterface to control the printer through its USB-C serial port. I mainly used the M401 and M402 commands: M401 to deploy the CR-Touch stick-probe and M402 to retract it.

During my first tests, I noticed that the CR-Touch stick-probe would only respond over the first half of the X-axis travel, from x=0. This could explain why the automatic bed leveling fails (error 203). I also observed that the X-axis limit where the stick-probe stopped responding could vary slightly … or even significantly if I repositioned the black ribbon differently, until the stick-probe would no longer respond even at the middle of the X-axis. In that case, the ‘back-home’ procedure would no longer work (like at the start of my issue).

I also found that after sending an M401 or M402 command without the corresponding movement of the CR-Touch stick-probe, simply manipulating the black cable could suddenly cause the stick-probe reaction. This seems to suggest that the command is actually reaching the CR-Touch, but the current of coil driving the stick-probe is not always being updated … perhaps … which is rather puzzling.

After further testing, I was able to roughly identify the critical section of the ribbon cable. It appears to be somewhere around the middle of it, near the point where it is fixed on the X-axis motor, although this is still somewhat uncertain. To rule out the connector at the extruder head, I secured the cable near the extruder-head connector with tape and a clamp so that this section is not subjected to stress during my tests.

I have ordered a new ribbon cable and plan to replace it soon. I’m keeping my fingers crossed.

I received the replacement black ribbon cable and installed it in place of the old one.

Everything is now working correctly: homing, manual bed leveling, and automatic bed leveling.
The 3D printer is currently printing a part.

*** Then, my issue has been resolved. ***
It was caused by a faulty of continuity somewhere in the ribbon cable !
