CFS retraction failure at color change

I just got my new K2 Plus and I’m getting a retraction failure every time there is a color change. I’ve been running the stock 4 color benchie with the door open to prevent heat creep. Sometimes it will work if I click on retry and sometimes it won’t work and says the extruder is clogged. I then have to remove the extruder and each time I find a bit of filament in the extruder like shown in the image. I’ve already submitted the issue to Creality support but I’m curious if anyone here has heard of this issue.

I have the same issue, with the added issue of my printer blowing the PTFE tube out of the top of the extruder as well. I have tried 6 different filaments with the same result.

I finally figured out that a part was not installed at the factory. I’m certain that installing this will resolve the issue.

I am getting the impression from the posts on here that quality control within the factory is irregular. Surely Creality test every machine electronically and have a visual inspection also.

@Optimus Should you (hopefully you are) conveying these issues back to the management.

I’m having that same issue. Haven’t heard back from after sales team :frowning:

I had this same issue. The filament would fail to retract on color change. The part OP was missing is called Cutter Cut Off Rod. Mine was installed but after spending 5 hours disassembling the whole hot end, extruder and looking through the Bowden tubes along with CMS system. My issue was a loose screw preventing the print head from going far enough to actually activate the cutter.

By chance I saw the glint of metal shavings and found the loose screw along the rail. More than half the screws on the rail were loose, I tightened everything back down, I’m assuming it was not tightened at factory and with shipping and shaking from prints it backed out. Not sure how smart it would be to locktiten/threadlock those screws. But I might give it a shot. Hope this helps if you have cleared the tubes and extruder but still have the issue.

I am having the problem where the filament cutter is not cutting properly and it’s causing the filament to get stuck in the extruder and causing the cfs to jam

Having a similar issue as well, anytime a color change happens I get a little bit of filament that looks like this. It’s the black part that seems like it’s still hot and getting melted by the gear in place when a full retraction happens but only on color swaps. 4 color benchies print fine, no issues there, but my prints (sliced on orca with the k2 plus profile from creality) don’t work. Happens every color swap, it’s a real pain when I’m trying to do multicolor prints. Thanks creality very cool.

I am having the same issue , I’ve sent an email to after-sales-service, no reply yet. I hope Creality fixes this issue, it’s a big deal.

I am having similar issues. I will have to look to see if cutter installed. I also noticed that somewhere in the mix I have chunks of filament getting torn out also contributing to jams. Sent to creality but nothing back yet.

Creality responded:
“Thank you for contacting Creality customer support.

no mention of sending me the necessary items for these replacements. Also, why not just send a CFS replacement?

I had a similar issue and posted my fix in another thread:

TLDR, I modeled a spacer to sit behind the cutter arm and extend the cutting distance, read my full post above so you understand how to use it without causing damage to your extruder

Creality Cloud -K2 Plus Cutter Rod Spacer From KGS_Engineering https://www.crealitycloud.com/model-detail/67d8d38064e6c7525b2f472a

Also posted to Printables since Creality is still reviewing my model on their site

I have the same issue and it bugs me to no end.

After changing colours the is a jam. I hade three tube being tugged so hard it destroyed the tube connector.

Talked to after sales. Got a new extruder. Replaced it and after the first print it was an clogged up again. About 5 cm of filament was coiled up in the extruder. See attached pics. The straight piece of filament is for scale. It’s 4 cm. Unfurled, the clogged pieces were longer in total.

I had to remove the lever age the spring to clean this up.

Now I can do one (1) single colour print but directly after I get an extruder error even though there is nothing wrong with the extruder. I have to open the extruder and then I can do one (1) single colour print again. And then a new error.

I have spent more time inside this machine than I have actually printing stuff and it drives me absolutely bonkers! It should not be this faulty. I’m going to ask for a refund soon.

This looks like it is not cutting off the filament. When you try to retract, and the hot end moves toward the cutter rod arm, do you hear an audible “thump” or “bump”? This is the filament actually being cutoff correctly. If you don’t hear this, then it is not cutting and I’d suggest trying my spacer I posted above to see if that helps.

I had (in December) the same problem and the reason was a small metal blade from the PTFE tube holder on extruder shell was ending up on the magnet of the cutter which then did not work anymore.
I cleaned out the cutter (according to cutter replacement video) and replaced extruder shell which includes a new PTFE fit and since then I printed hundreds/thousands of color changes without Problem.
