Dirty 40W laser?

As I was finishing a test etching on steel, prior to beginning to perform the etch on brass, I suddenly got a system malfunction with the red laser warning light flashing on the 40W laser module, indicating a possible dirty laser.
I had been using a slow/hot setting of 600@ 95%.
I was suspicious right away since the laser is nearly brand-new, but I consulted YouTube and found the laser cleaning procedure which I performed after minor disassembly.
After reconnecting the module and powering on the system, the red warning light immediately came on again and the system was completely disabled as previously.
Soliciting other users as to what to possibly do next to troubleshoot and repair the problem. As it is now, I cannot use the 40W module at all.

Hi @BelleMonsterGirl .

I don’t know what you exactly did yet, but here are what is suggested:

  • Clean the lense with isopropyl alcohol
  • Once cleaned, inspect visually - if still not clear, try to swap it with the extra one you received with the unit;
  • If you unplugged any of the cables, make sure none of the pins have been bent when replugged (this happens often…)

Not sure what else I can tell you, so try/confirm the above and post back - maybe someone else in the forum has other ideas.

Hi Zolt
Yes, I cleaned the lens previously and there seemed to be zero residue on it, but per your recommendation, I cleaned it again just now with alcohol. Still no residue.
There has been very little actual use of this brand-new unit, and no cutting of any materials whatsoever; only a couple etching projects on steel, but at high power settings of 90+ percent.
As far as bent pins, this error occurred right in the middle of active etching use of the unit, so I feel sure there is no “bent pin” issue, although I do appreciate your suggestion.
I’m thoroughly frustrated that this very expensive machine is already absolutely dead and unable to accomplish anything. Haizzzz!

Of course, if it’s new, you need to contact the Creality tech for replacement.

Good luck!

You have to reset the module to clear the error, press long on the button, did you do that?

No! I’ll have to look for a reset button. I didn’t know about it, thanks.

Yes!! That did the trick, thanks so much!

That for sure is good to know!
Thanks @s3sebastian for the info
I didn’t knwo about this.

I had a similar problem and found out about the reset after about an hour of looking on the internet. Should be stated more clearly with the information sent with the unit.

Yes!! It seems simple enough, now that it’s known, but easily overlooked.
Now I’m working w Creality to comply with their latest recommendation to flash the firmware.
