Ender 3 V3 SE stuck on blue screen

Need help!! Trying to update to firmware 1.0.6, downloaded the files from Crealitys website, successful update the screen but the main board just won’t update. Sits there with a blue screen no matter what I do. I’ve tried renaming the file to 123.bin and Firmware.bin and reformatted several times, even made sure it’s the card it came with. I am also now unable to get the screen to roll back to 1.0.4! When I try to update the screen it just says no file. How can I sort this out or has my printer died? It’s literally 3 months old and was running fine! Kicking myself. If it aint broke don’t fix it!!!

Disclosure, I am new to 3d printing but my questions and ideas might be helpful…or not. I am also not aware of your level of technical skill so hopefully questions I ask are relevant.

When you downloaded the file, did you download the zip version? If so I am assuming you ‘unzipped’ or extracted the files to its own folder and that uncompressed folder/file is the one you are using?

Have you given yourself ‘root’ access on the machine? If so then you can connect via the network, or via local wired connection. With root access you can potentially go into the file system (Linux) and delete the botched file.

Another thing and most likely the simplest would be to do a factory reset. But this may not be possible if you have bricked the main board. You may end up having to purchase a new mainboard.

Here are instructions and considerations from our friend ol’ Chatty Boy,

To perform a factory reset on a Creality Ender 3 V3 SE, you typically need to reset the printer’s firmware settings to their default state. This can help resolve issues that might arise from configuration changes or firmware updates. Here’s a general guide on how to do this:

1. Access the Printer’s Menu

  1. Power On the Printer: Make sure the printer is powered on and fully operational.

  2. Navigate to Settings: Use the control knob or touchscreen (depending on your model) to navigate through the printer’s menu system. Look for a section typically labeled “Settings,” “Configuration,” or something similar.

2. Reset to Factory Settings

  1. Find the Reset Option: Within the settings menu, search for an option labeled “Restore Factory Settings,” “Factory Reset,” “Reset Configuration,” or similar.

  2. Select the Option: Confirm your selection. The printer will prompt you to confirm that you want to reset all settings. Confirm again to proceed.

  3. Reboot the Printer: After resetting, the printer may automatically reboot or prompt you to reboot. Make sure to complete this step to ensure the reset is fully applied.

3. Recalibrate and Reconfigure

Bed Leveling and Calibration: After a factory reset, all custom settings, including bed leveling, will be lost. You’ll need to re-level the bed and possibly re-calibrate other aspects like the extruder steps (E-steps) and probe offsets (if using an auto bed leveling sensor).

Firmware and Custom Settings: If you had custom firmware settings or modifications, you might need to reapply them after the reset.

Additional Considerations

Backup Settings: If possible, make a note of or back up your current settings before performing a factory reset. This can help you restore specific configurations or calibrations that were working well for you.

Firmware Version: Ensure that you know the firmware version you’re using. If you’ve upgraded from the stock firmware, a factory reset won’t revert the firmware version, but it will reset all settings to the defaults of the current firmware version.

Manual Reset: If the printer’s interface doesn’t have a factory reset option, some printers can be reset by reflashing the firmware. This process involves re-uploading the firmware file, which also resets all settings. Consult your printer’s manual or online resources specific to the Creality Ender 3 V3 SE for instructions on how to do this safely.

Always refer to the specific manual or official resources for your printer model to ensure that you follow the correct procedures.

You can’t give yourself root access to a vanilla V3SE and it has no network capabilities. Unzip the *.bin file to the root directory of the SD card, the SD card should be maximum 8GB and formatted FAT. The SD card reader on the V3SE is rather shonky, I flashed mine today and it took a couple of goes to get it to seat properly, this was on a brand new Kingston card rather than the unknown brand that comes with the printer (that thing is really dead). There is a factory reset in the menu, a bit of scrolling I found it, but cant remember which of the 4 menus it was, probably either the second or fourth, after an age of it being on the Sonic Pad it will take a while to get used to it being standalone.

Yes, fully unzipped the zip file and copied the folder to the route when doing the display and just the file on its own to the route directory of the card when doing the main board. Display updates fine and I even tried renaming the file for the main board as suggested to 123.bin and Firmware.bin. it’s not in a folder it’s on the route of the card. The machine is a stock machine, no alterations to it what so ever. I can only think there must have been an issue when trying to update and it’s crashed mid update or something. If I have to but a new main board I will. They are only £30 but what I don’t know is the firmware version the new board will come with and if it’s 1.0.4 of I will have the same issue again as I will need to update it to match the screen. I can’t see to roll back the screens firmware. It won’t take the 1.0.4 file.

Did you figure it out yet? l have a 3D printer (Creality ender 3 V3 SE) and lt is stuck on the blue screen. l tryed to do the whole 123.bin thing and l can not figure it out still.

OK, l finally got my screen to work, but now everything is in Chinese!!! And it looked like the screen was overlapping itself sometimes! I tried to use google translate to look for the language setting, but l could not find it anywhere. l think the overlap problem might be covering it or something. If someone could tell me what number bar it is that would be great!!!

Hi, I had to replace the motherboard in the printer in the end. To be fait, I contacted Creality and they sent me one under warranty. I then had an issue that the motherboard was on a different firmware to the screen but having then updated the screen, in the end all was OK. Replacing the motherboard in the printer is actually really easy and Creality has a video on YT showing the process.

this one would be very similar for a V3 KE too.
