Ender 3 V3 SE won't boot and behaves strangely after Mainboard replacement

Hey there!

I have ran into a problem with my Ender 3 V3 SE that I bought last year. One of the printers destroyed six of my SD cards, making them unusable at any device including the PC. They would no longer be recognized no matter what. When reading about this issue, I stumbled upon a forum post describing that some of the earlier machines of this type can fry SD cards and that replacing their Mainboards with new ones would fix it.

I contacted the seller of the printer and they sent me two replacement Mainboards (Which look exactly the same and have the same serial numbers, they are only missing a sticker). I installed the first one of them just today, taking pictures of the cables and Mainboard before working on them and using the creality YouTube video guide to, well, guide me.

After installing everything and placing the cables back where they were, I installed the printers bottom and gave it a test ride. Well… It behaved strangely.

The printer head starts moving left and right endlessly, with the build plate going back and forth, seemingly without plan or reason. The display showed me two numbers, both of which seemed to change slightly with the movements of bed and nozzle.

Even given a minute, the printer won’t try to home or boot properly. What can I do to fix this?
I am kinda stuck between a SD eatercanxd a hard place.

Hast du das neue Mainboard mit der passenden Firmware geflasht?

Das wird das Problem sein. Habe das nicht gemacht.
Werde das Montag testen, vorher komme ich an die Drucker nicht dran.

Danke für die Idee!

Did you ever find a fix? i’ve got the same issue after my replacement of a warranty creality official parts board

i put the latest firmware on an SD card, inserted into the printer, and booted it. after installing firmware the behavior stopped for me

Sorry for the late answer/lack of update.

Flashing the new mainboards with the most recent firmware worked perfectly.
For some reason, one of the two refused to install the German version twice, so I went with English, which worked fine.

Anyway. None of the printers damage sd cards now. So the issue described is entirely fixed.

Hi, did you have to update your screen to the newer firmware first? Which version of the firmware did you load onto the main board was it 1.0.4 or 1.0.6? I have this exact same issue. My screen is on firmware 1.0.4 but I just put in a new board and have the exact same issue as you. So pleased if I can fix this!!

I did update the firmware of the screen just because I was already doing the mainboard anyway. Whether or not this was needed, I honestly have no idea. It is working now that I have done both, so there is that.

Had same issue as described here and as I am an IT person firmware was next logical step but still very disappointed with level of quality from dealing with creality tech support, to be far my Elegoo Neptune 3 plus had same issue with not reading memory card and needing system board replacement but unlike crealy the board was sent with tracking info and system board already loaded with functioning firmware so turning it on only required leveling and z offset input… These printer manufacturers have a long way to go to be proper tool for regular users in my opinion of course.
