Fan noise at shutdown seems louder - after only 40 hours of prints. RESOLVED - I think

Hi all and so pleased with my KE, even if not with Creality over something else for my S1. I have used the KE for just over 40 hours of prints that would’ve taken the S1 closer to 200 hours and not a single failure or misprint or non-stick issue either. I have been playing with these budget machines for 12 years so I’m not new to getting things setup correctly and the KE is great out of the box, even if it needs tweaking to get perfectly smooth finished prints.

Anyway, my KE is making a louder fan noise after making prints and I didn’t notice when first started using the new machine last week. I think it’s underneath and pretty sure that is accessible but I hate to take apart my print station just to get to it and find out nothings wrong.

It is “whirring down” for about 3 to 4 seconds after the machine is turned off.

Could the fan be going bad this soon on a new machine?

Thoughts…and thanks.

Both my V3SE and KE have a noisy fan on the printhead, fire the machine up and there is a pulsing whirring noise. It will do this for a couple of minutes until warm at which point it stops making that noise. Both work absolutely normally after that. Could try and lubricate them, clean them for debris but they still just work. Not heard any noises from the mainboard fan, but it could equally do the same thing and is possibly more susceptible to debris.

In the 7 machines I’ve played with over 12 years I’ve not had a noisy fan…in honesty I’ve also never had over 400 hours on any one of them either. But this is only 40 hour so I think it needs looked at and check for debris or something…crap! Maybe there is an opportunity under this machine that the others didn’t have to suck something inside…I do see debris laying under the machine. Will take a look over the weekend. Thx. I hope I don’t have to deal with Creality though…I am currently arguing with them over my S1 and a problem - they simply will not read the question(s) and go thru their typical “reply from the manual” garbage.

My Ender 3 KE occasionally has a noisy fan when it starts up or after printing the first couple of layers but other than that, I’ve had no issues. I’ve just installed a new hot end and took the opportunity to clean everything (fan included) and apart from a bit of dust it’s all clear

Are you talking about the hot end fan or underneath for the mainboard? The hot end I get, but after 40 hours getting to the one underneath is a real pain because I have to take so much off the printer to get it out of the “cabinet” space it’s in just to remove the cover and look…I will, but I don’t want to have to do that every month of 40 hours of prints. The S1 I have doesn’t make noise like the KE after shutting it off, and I don’t remember it doing that last week when I first set up the KE. I will get it apart this weekend though just to verify the situation and get fan info to have a spare on hand. Regards

Never had to do the bottom fan. I’m a messy little oik when it comes to stray bits of filament. Printer in continuous use since I bought it well over a year ago, it gets left on for days on end.

I blow mine off after almost every print, but strays can get underneath. However, if it is the bottom fan then it is defective based on your use and observation of your KE. Regards.

Update…my buddy suggested that a wire may be heating up and touching a blade. And I decided to jump at it and look. The way they have the fan mounted the wire was literally laying on top of the fan. So I took the 2 fan mounts screws out of the bottom plate and rotated the fan 180 and put the screws back in making the wire to the outside of the fan and not on top. It is not making that same noise when shutting off so it’s a good thing I checked. I do hear the ball bearings make sound as it shuts off but not the noise I was hearing. So thanks for the push and my friend for suggesting a wire. Regards. Pic link HERE
