hi all so I have a k2 plus with CFS all worked ok for first 10 prints now just says extrusion issue or retraction fault ,
ive replaced all tubing , new nozzle , all filament has been dried , but still has the fault it seems to be when it changes colours it fails ive stripped the buffer down nothing in there , all spools run freely , extruder clear and new nozzle but does this all time I can’t print anything now . im just guessing now any help would be great thanks
Have you tried a new roll of filament? I get similar faults when using partially used rolls that work fine on the side spool holder. After using them on the spool holder I put them back into the CFS and they work fine. When it happened again (with partially used rolls) I cut a couple of metres off the roll and it works fine. It’s like the CFs does something to the filament to cause these problems. Sometimes the main CFS drive motor has ground away just enough filament in a specific spot which I think causes this. Other times I cant see anything but removing some filament always fixes it.
BoBL is right on the money. I just checked two rolls of ABS I took out of my CFS an hour or so ago to switch out to PLA. The section that ran from the spool to the hot end has the typical fine ladder indented pattern of a filament drive on both sides of the filament. Occasionally on retract I hear this buzz/grind as the striated filament pulls back onto the spool. I hate suggest it but if you do a manual extrude from the CFS and then retract and there is no pattern on the retracted filament you may have a load of crud imbedded in the “teeth” of any of the 5 drive assemblies in the CFS. The main and one per slot. My old bed slingers would do this regularly. I found this on an Australian site on disassembly of the CFS How to replace Filament Inlet of CFS : DREMC-STORE
I seem to remember Creality maintenance calling for cleaning the CFS at a service interval I found to be way to often. I am ~ 50 prints in so far with ABS, PETG and PLA with the CFS running well so far and I am sure other can put a zero or few on my numbers.
I have been getting retraction issues on my K2 intermittently since new also. The first time it happened it was completely jammed up and I didn’t know what to do. Then I saw this guy on Youtube show where the release is underneath the CFS. That was a lifesaver. However, the spring on that release is incredibly strong. Too strong I think. Anyway, someone else on Youtube said that Creality might know about that and may be coming out with a fix for it (he mentioned cutting out one coil on the tensioner spring). But I think I will wait till I hear directly from Creality on that. But that might just be our problem right there.
Didn’t you know? “CFS” stands for “Comprehensive Filament Shredder”…
It does seem worse with some than others…I have a roll of Silk Gold from Geeetech; beautiful colour, but my printer will have none of it. I find I’m pulling fluff out of the extruder every second print.
And…“ladder”? Mine looks more like it used a grappling hook…
IT wouldn’t be so bad if there was anywhere opposing to apply some pressure, like an indentation or Protrusion that you could place your fingers on and squeeze the button with your thumb…
