New Ender 3 V3 KE - not usable, very bad Result already with the Test Print of the little Boat

Bought a V3 KE as my very first own Printer. Unpacked, assembled, and done the initial setup Steps. Wanted to test the Printer with the Out-Of.The-Box Settings for my first, fast succes, printing the included Benchy without any modifications.

I knew, 3D Printing is kinda Black Magic and there is much to learn to get optimal Results. But i thought, the Printer should print out of the Box the little Boat Sculpture in a way that you 3D Pros might not be impressed, but me.

I tried it twice, but after short time, both attempts failed in a dramatic way. It failed so hard, that i cant imagine, that this is a question of Settings or my Skills. So, before I try to work on the settings and my Skills, is that a usual first behavior of the Printer? Or could there be a Hardware Issue?

From what I see, there is a Rubber Band under the Ground Plate of the Printer, wich is very very lose, however, it transports the Plate.

Could someone of you Pros here look at the Pictures? It seems that the Printer not stays on a table Y-Position, at least. Should I return the Printer or is that my fail? What did I miss?

Thanks in advance!

Lots of layer shifting there. You say the belt under the bed is loose, that is most of the problem, tighten it so that it gives off a fairly low twang when you pluck it. At the back of the machine there is an Allen screw that moves the belt jockey wheel to tighten the belt. Give that a try and come back to us with the result.

I had the same problem with my ke on the first try. Just tighten the belt that controls the bed movement. I tightened the bolt all the way. Not overly tight but good and firm. That fixed the printing problem for me.

Hi
Just to help, the adjustment screw is at the back of the printer, the only screw in the centre.
It is worth going through the setup of the printer again and ensure everything is as the manufacturer describes.
You are VERY correct this is “black magic”, lots to learn lots of uprades to buy.
Good Luck

Thank you so much, tighten the screw did the trick! “Layer shifting” was the word to know. Now i searched the web a while about belt tension and learned, that i can adjust correct tension via accoustic check. As i was a guitarist and vocalist in my childhood, im happy to know that i can tune my printer like a guitar!

So, my “Black Magic” learning curve increased rapidly the first day, and i get a feeling how much to learn. Thanks again, the little Boat printed perfectly, and i will check any other screws of the device!

Another thing to check next is the parallelism of the toolhead gantry to the bed, all you need is a couple identical height things such as a couple of soup cans, beer bottles, pritt stick, place these on the bed each side of the tool head. You might find that one side is higher than the other. At the top of the Z lead screw is a collar with allen screws, loosen these and manually turn that lead screw to level the gantry, then tighten the screws back up.

On the Z lead screws, where it meets the X gantry, there are a couple of screws each side that fix the leadscrew nuts to the gantry, do not tighten these, they take up play in the leadscrews. To adjust fully tighten the screws then nack them off by a half/full turn. This will prevent z banding from z leadscrews runout.
