Printers suddenly stops

Hi everyone,

I’m experiencing an intermittent issue with my Creality Ender 3, and I’d appreciate some help diagnosing the cause before I start replacing components unnecessarily.

Printer Specifications
• Printer: Creality Ender 3
• Motherboard: Creality V4.2.2
• Filament: PLA
• Print media: SD/TF card

The Problem

My printer can be printing normally when it suddenly stops mid-print. When this happens, the hotend and heated bed begin cooling down, and the printer appears to behave as though it has lost access to the SD card.

If I try to start another print by searching for print on TF card option, the it shows “No Media,” even though the SD card is still physically inserted in the slot and appears to be seated correctly.

Removing the SD card and reinserting it restores detection, allowing me to print again.

So when the Printer Stops I’ve observed the following sequence of events:

  1. The printer suddenly stops printing in the middle of a print.
  2. The Ender 3 startup logo appears over the existing information screen. The display does not go completely blank or shut off.
  3. The printer then returns to its normal main information screen.
  4. When the information screen reappears, both the hotend and heated bed temperatures read 0°C, and both begin cooling down.
  5. If I try to print again, it’s written “No Media,” despite the SD card still being inserted.

The appearance of the startup logo makes me wonder whether the motherboard is resetting or experiencing some kind of interruption. However, I’m not sure whether this is related to the SD card reader, the motherboard, the power supply, or a firmware issue.

My main concerns

  1. What could cause the printer to stop mid-print and display the startup logo without the screen completely shutting down?
  2. Could a faulty SD card, SD card reader, or card slot cause these symptoms, or is the problem more likely related to the motherboard resetting?
  3. Could an unstable power supply or another electrical issue cause the printer to behave this way?
  4. What diagnostic tests would you recommend to identify the actual cause before replacing any components?

I’m trying to narrow down the root cause rather than replacing parts through trial and error.

Any suggestions, troubleshooting steps, or similar experiences would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you in advance! :folded_hands::handshake:

The first and easiest thing to try would be to use a different SD card.

Buy a A-brand Micro-SD Card, the printer is constantly writing to the SD-Card so after some time they will give problems… sometimes a format will help, but if the SD-Card fails for the second or third time replace it… Throwing away material caused by printfailures will cost more then a new SD-Card.
