Problems printing TPU (Ender3 V3)

Firstly - no problems printing with PLA (smooth PEI build plate), But TPU starts off OK with good adhesion, though after about 20 seconds of printing the first layer, adhesion fails completely (And I have tried using Pritt-stick to no avail). I’ve also tried slowing the print speed by 50%, still the same problem, I’ve also tried printing with a textured PEI late and a Frosted PC build plate (Which is super for PLA adhesion) Also upped the bed temp to 90c with no difference. I’ve printed at 220c as this temp worked well on my previous printer.

Note: the TPU which did adhere id very well, it just stopped adhesion after about 20 seconds.

Can you confirm which printer? I am thinking, as I always do, z-offset is probably a tad too high and needs adjusting.

It’s the Ender3 V3

I’m not sure if that’s the problem as it prints just fine with PLA, wouldn’t that have the same problem?

Hello David_Dunmore,

If you want advice from someone who prints a lot of TPU (and professionally) … @Bonfireman is your man !

There is a difference between printing PLA and TPU and one of them is Z offset … really.

Cheers.

Answered that question here, please can you open one query at a time, I had to search for the other thread. Which brand of TPU is another question, I usually use Creality or Sunlu, but Pinuotu is my favourite. Overture is a bit more difficult and Tinmorry can be a little hit and miss.

My first time printing TPU on Ender 3 V3. Came her looking for recommendations. Using NinjaFlex which is a very soft 85A. had already prototyped models in PLA so wanted to get right to it. No time for filament calibration. Started with the Generic TPU settings and adjusted extruder and bed temp to midrange of brand guidelines. Changed to Bonfireman’s retraction recommendation. Creality’s profile speed was still crazy fast. Rather than adjusting all the speeds, I changed the device setting to 25%. I was amazed the part printed acceptably for my purpose on first try. Only problem I had was too much adhesion to the textured PEI sheet. I don’t like using glue, so I’ll have to research and test other options. This machine is amazing at just printing anything i throw at it. Had great success with PETG-CF last week.

Not printed as soft as that yet. I’ve been printing 95A with a 0.2mm nozzle quite happily.
