V3SE/KE tie rods

I made my own with some M8 studding and nuts and printed brackets, but the same things can be had here from Aliexpress, less hassle and a bit less industrial looking than studding.

Well anything that can help to stiffen the machine can be beneficial. I myself had thought about this and was going to use machined aluminum brackets with m8 rod ends and adjustable turnbuckles.

If you remove the spool off the top of the gantry and replace the woefully undersized gantry securing screws (3x14mm) to a more appropriate length of 3x20mm then the tie rods are most likely overkill

Personally I would like someone to use the g-meter to do a before and after test regime and show definitive proof that this does anything. I might imagine that on tall models approaching the upper heights of the gantry this might prove beneficial, but again no one that I am aware of has shown any proof of this.

In the meantime get the heavy filament spool off the top of the printer gantry and go to longer gantry securing screws to really grab a good purchase into the struts to really pull them tight.

ā€œOverkillā€ apart from being one of my favourite bands is what I do. Good enough for Victorian engineers its good enough for me. M3x25 screws I can do easily. Taken this machine off of the sonic pad, for now, I have a cunning plan, so I canā€™t do vibration compensation just yet. As for taking the spool off the top, first thing I did, popped that spool into a drier and feed it from there, soooo much less wobble.

Changed mine to M3x20, my M3x25 arenā€™t threaded on the last 6mm so they donā€™t bottom out, still it is almost 50% more thread. I donā€™t know what washers Creality use, but I canā€™t get them off the old screws to re-use them.

As you say 3x20 is far better than 3x14. For washers I used standard 3mm washers from the local hardware store. When I did my 3x25mm bolts they actually cut fresh threads, I suppose this could be a risk if the bolt snapped. That would suck for sure. Updated the previous post to 3x20mm to keep it on the safe side for the average Joe.

The ones Creality uses are called ā€˜captiveā€™ washers and are placed on the bolt before the threads are cut, thus they are ā€˜captiveā€™ to the bolt
