K2 Combo Hotend → K2 Plus Hotend Swap? Anyone Tried (Success or Limitations)?

Hi everyone,

Has anyone successfully replaced the Creality K2 Combo hotend with a K2 Plus hotend?

I am asking because the K2 / K2 Pro hotend is rated at around 70W, while the K2 Plus hotend uses a 100W ceramic heater, designed for higher temperature and flow performance. Because of this difference, I am unsure whether the K2 Plus hotend is a direct replacement or if there are hardware or firmware limitations.

Additionally, I am unable to find K2 or K2 Pro hotends on AliExpress marketplaces. All available listings appear to be K2 Plus hotends, which makes me wonder whether users are already installing them on K2 or K2 Pro machines.

If anyone has tried this, I would really appreciate feedback on the following:

Whether the swap works reliably or not

Heater and thermistor connector compatibility

Possible risks to the mainboard, heater MOSFET, or power circuitry due to the higher wattage

Any required firmware changes such as PID tuning, temperature limits, or thermistor configuration

Mechanical compatibility, including mounting, nozzle system, and clearances

Any real-world experience, whether successful or not, would be very helpful. I would like to avoid damaging the printer by installing an incompatible hotend.

Thank you very much in advance for your guidance.

Hi,

I have the same question as you. Could this exchange help you?

I’m not sure if I am trying to do the same as you , but I bought the I believe K2 plus hot end which had a bulky heat sink to it , it is also longer in length than the k1 hot end which I use on my ender 3v3 SE because I like the ceramic heater and unicorn nozzles which is why I bought the K2 plus cuz it has unicorn nozzles I’ll be at a different length I did find however though that the ceramic heater block assembly with unicorn nozzle can be unscrewed from the K2 body and directly attached to the k1 heat sink which is what I’ve done and I’m trying to use the hotend in the zero g Mercury one build for the ender 5 plus although I’m still trying to find a mount to adapt it to the Eva tool head I’m also not sure if the board for the thermal resistor for the ender five will heat up the K2 plus hot in completely I can get my heat I just haven’t gone up to 350 yet I’m using the big tree tech SKR mini E3 3.0 board but I’m still using the stock therma resistor board for the ender 5 plus, this is my first time using klipper firmware so it’s a learning curve for me I haven’t got the build completely printing yet haven’t even done a PID tune yet

I ordered a replacement hot end for my K2 combo from Creality store and it was the 70W model.
